With rinoplasty being one of the most popular plastic surgery procedure it is moving from the kingdom of the rich and famous into the homes of normal people like you and me.
Knowing Rhinoplasty Nose reshaping surgery is a nasal surgery. The surgery can be performed for medical causes, breathing problems, birth defects, or injury, or it may simply be done for visual cosmetic purposes. According to the recent statistics from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (www.baaps.org.uk), demand for the procedure has moved up by 34 per cent in one year, making it the fifth most admired procedure for women in the UK and the most popular for men.
Several parts of nose jobs can be altered to change its look, including the tip, bridge (which runs between the eyes to the tip) and nostrils. There are two main types of surgery: reduction and augmentation (which makes the nose larger). Tip reshaping or tip-plasty is also popular. As stated by specialsist plastic surgeon Lucian Ion, from the West London Clinic (www.westlondonclinic.co.uk): The mark of a balanced nose is a tip thats in proportion. Alex Karidis one of the leading plastic surgeons in London points out that gone are those days when people use to have to huge size button nose. Now people desire to have proper shaped nose making reduction the most popular type of rhinoplasty.
What can it do for you? The aim for most of the patients looking for rhinoplasty is to improve the look of their nose as stated by Mr Kalpesh Patel an ear, nose and throat surgeon. Plastic surgeons are able to rectify abnormalities in your nose and make you feel better about how it looks. This, of course, translates to more confidence on your side. In addition, rhinoplasty can be perfomed to improve nasal function for instance, because of a birth defect or injury thats led to breathing troubles. People often have rhinoplasty when they get older. Some may decide to select rhinoplasty to restore their nose, says Mr Ion. Ageing can often cause a sagging of the nose tip since the fat in this area has been partially imbibed and because, as the skin thins with age, the tip becomes more peculiar.
The rhynoplasty process
Your surgeon will make cuts inside your nostrils to get to the bone and cartilage. The shape of your nose will then be made by partially removing and re-shaping the bone and cartilage. For many patients, the closed rhinoplasty procedure provides all of the traditional nose job advantages without the threat of external scarring. Incisions in this procedure are made within the nostril, where they will be completely undetectable after healing. Open rhinoplasty surgery allows the surgeon the least restricted entry to the cartilage and bone of the nose but is also more possible to induce scarring. The incision across the columella makes it possible for the surgeon to pick the skin off the tip of the nose and shape the cartilage exactly. When recovered, the incision produces a very small, almost invisible scar on the underside of the nose.
Rhinoplasty Cost Costs vary from place to place but is generally between 3,000 to 4,000.
Postoperative care
After the rhinoplasty your face may be swollen, you may be bearing pain, or you may have a dull headache. There will be some swelling and staining around your eyes. You will have a splint over your nose to maintain the bones in position. Dont perform any strenuous activities, pass much time in direct sunlight or stoop for the first week for any threat of bleeding. Be aware that the tip of the nose can feel numb for 6-12 months, but feeling will finally come back.
Risks associated with rhinoplasty There are a number of risks and complications particular to rhinoplasty. They are: rhinitis also called running nose, infection, reaction to anesthetic and blockage of nose by swelling resulting in to breathing difficulties. Removing too much cartilage or bone can make an unnatural look and isnt advisable because it may obstruct breathing. However, people normally get relief from breathing problems if appropriate care is being taken.
How long does it last? Unlike other cosmetic surgery procedures (many of them need to be redone later), you shouldnt need to repeat a nose job unless youre unhappy with the outcome. Mr. Patel states that in about 10 per cent of rhinoplasty examples theres a poor aesthetic result and five per cent of patients will desire to have the surgery again. Recovery takes time. Some swelling, usually noticeable only to you, may continue for several months. You can expect to observe the final outcomes of your rhinoplasty six to twelve months following your surgery.
