The Hottest New (Old) Craze In Outdoor Furniture - Adirondack Is Back!
It's not a big surprise that a classic American style like the Adirondack Chair is making a major come back in only the last few years. This fad is spreading as families all over the country are taking the opportunity to spend a lot more time relaxing and kicking back in their meticulously crafted outdoor living space. I remember as a six year old kid, sliding all the way back into one of these familiar old chairs, with my legs hanging barely over the edge, while my grandpa and I peeled apples and discussed the homemade apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream that we knew my granny would have just for us after dinner. Balancing a cool lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was peaceful and warm. Stories from Grandpa made time fly. It is truly no big mystery why we like to sit back and relax outdoors, whether that's on the deck, in your garden area, out on the patio, or sitting on the front porch. There may not be a better way to relax than to slide in to a high backed, deep seated, wonderful Adirondack chair and leave your troubles behind.
Exactly where did this piece of American culture come from? Well, the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This style was commonplace at the many mountain retreats and resorts that were prominent in those days. By the time the 40's came around you could find Adirondack almost everywhere. The furniture trend began to spread to the south and was going west quickly. As the Adirondack furniture style started growing in popularity, and found its way around the country, influences regionally started showing up. The furniture design was applied to a large assortment of outdoor furniture styles including; porch swings, benches, gliders, rocking chairs, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a piece called the "tete a tete" which literally means; "head to head". This fanciful design combines a couple of chairs and a table between them and is built as one piece. What a fantastic way to spend a warm Sunday afternoon with somebody you love!
You're going to be satisfied and shocked to find a great variety of Adirondack furniture that's available now. The original design has not only withstood the test of time, but the Adirondack craze has exploded with a wonderful supply of finishes, styles, material, and colors. Classic Adirondack furniture is built with wood that's known for resisting deterioration and bugs including cherry, oak, red or white cedar, or cypress. The wood selected is going to vary depending on the part of the country as do individual furniture designs. A popular option in traditional Adirondack style is outdoor furnishings constructed from polymer "lumber" that's made from plastic recycled packaging, old milk jugs, and such. This is not only an environmentally friendly way to purchase your furniture, but you will also have some advantages with easy care, longevity, durability, and colors won't pale because the pigments are mixed all the way through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors for added protection.
